Family Law & Divorce
Largay Law Offices, P.A. represented thousands of families in the most difficult times of their lives. We represent men, women, and children with care, compassion, and creativity. We routinely process uncontested family matters and litigate hotly-contested cases.
The Firm always has a considerable base of family-law clients. Many repeat clients return for further proceedings. These include changes in child support, parental rights modifications, child contact, visitation, modifications, or terminations in alimony. Our 20 years of family law experience as advocates, counselors, facilitators, mediators, and aggressive court litigators qualifies us. We represent clients in the most unusual, complex, or hotly contested of situations.
We recognize that family law matters are emotional, trying, and expensive. Working with a host of qualified counselors, therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and other experts, we ensure our clients the professional support they need in this trying time. When necessary, we regularly employ a host of experts, such as Guardians ad Litem, Forensic Evaluators, Substance Abuse Evaluators, Accountants, Appraisers, Insurance Professionals, and other specialists as the needs of the client require.
Our knowledge, experience, and regular training in family law are supported by our aggressive, proactive style. However, we also believe in reasonableness and cooperation. We quickly adjust our style of representation to suit the needs of any particular client or situation.
We assist clients in all aspects of the law relating to the needs of today’s families, including:
Also known as Dissolution of Marriage, every divorce proceeding is unique. We handle straightforward uncomplicated, uncontested divorces, as well as complex dissolutions.
Court orders regarding the children of former domestic or unmarried partners can file, similar to a divorce action. The Court follows the same rules and procedures for determinations as to the parents’ respective rights to raise their child, establish child support, and provide health insurance, among other important issues.
Establishing reasonable, liberal visitation is best in some circumstances. Restricted, supervised contact and visitation are unfortunately necessary in extreme cases. We can predict, based on the factors in your case, what a Judge is likely to award for parent-child and grandparent-child contact and visitations. This enables us to more cost-effectively negotiate a better position for the client without the necessity of a trial.
Maine follows the child support guidelines. A Child Support Figure derived from a table/matrix considers the parties’ respective incomes, ages, and residency of the children, health insurance expense, childcare costs, other children born to the parties, or special needs that a child may have. Child Support figures can change because of a change in circumstances or after a long period of time.
Prosecution and Defense of these matters are especially important. Whether or not a divorce or parental rights action has been or will be filed. Domestic Abuse encompasses a variety of situations, from outright assaults, physical torment, and various forms of harassment to emotional, financial, property, and pet abuse. We regularly file complaints about Court Orders of Protection from Abuse or Harassment.
We support these complaints with sworn injured or abused-party statements, witness statements, police reports, and evidence such as photographs, videos, and internet postings. Using this evidence, we make our clients’ tales of abuse come to life in the Courtroom. Such evidence is extremely persuasive when one is seeking a Court Order and various forms of relief and protection.
As your elder law attorneys, we can ease the legal difficulties that occur with aging by preparing documents such as advance health care directives (living wills), trusts, and other documents to avoid the need for a guardian.
We also assist in bringing or defending against a guardianship or conservatorship proceeding.
A power of attorney is a document where a person gives another person the authority to make financial or healthcare decisions on their behalf. No court action required.
Estate planning involves more than just preparing a will. We assist in preparing wills, trusts, and other corporate documents to distribute assets as you wish.
What makes a Family Law Case Complicated?
Issues such as:
- Alcohol or substance abuse dependency or addiction
- Mental Health Diagnoses, such as depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, etc.
- Multiple children with special needs or different parents
- Family Businesses or a Self-Employed Party
- Multi-Jurisdictional or Foreign State cases whereby one party lives outside the State of Maine.
We represent clients successfully in about every situation imaginable.
What makes a Family Law Case Successful?
Frequent, honest, and open communication between Attorney and the Client is essential. An early investigation by private investigators, trained paralegals, the police, or attorneys diffuses difficult situations or uncovers information or documents that encourage early settlement. Focus on the Family and the Best Interests of the Child eliminates superfluous, extraneous, and immaterial arguments or challenges.
Reasoned decision-making and compromise, based on all of the facts, often result in early resolutions. As opposed to long, drawn-out proceedings. Finally, Family Law representation by the lawyers at Largay Law Offices, P.A., ensures that the care, compassion, and creativity you need. This translates into aggressive, effective, and satisfying results for your family.
