Joseph M. Pickering, Esq. was raised in Bangor, Maine.
Education:
Joseph attended Bangor High School and went directly to McGill University in Montreal, Canada where he concentrated in History and Political Science. (B.A. 1994). At McGill, Joseph was a member of the McGill Union Debating Society, which won the world championship in 1991. After graduation, Joseph studied at the University of Maine School of Law in Portland, Maine. Joseph graduated with his law degree (J.D.), cum laude, in 1997.

Joseph's memberships have included the Maine State Bar Association, Maine Trial Lawyers Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the American Bar Association.
Legal Experience:
Joseph began his career practicing law with Largay Law Offices, P.A. in October 1997. He is licensed to practice in both Maine and Massachusetts. His practice involves the representation of numerous individuals and businesses in a variety of arenas. Joseph actively mediates and litigates civil and criminal cases in the District and Superior Courts throughout Eastern and Central Maine, as well as writing legal briefs for appellate cases in the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. When not in the courthouse, Joseph counsels clients in a variety of matters, including family law, criminal defense, business/corporate & real estate transactions, and estate planning (Wills, POA's and Trusts).

Published Decisions/Maine Supreme Judicial Court Victories
Joseph Pickering successfully appealed to the Maine Law Court from a judgment against his client in the Penobscot Probate Court. The Maine Law Court reversed the decision reducing the judgment from approximately $100,000 to $4500.

Joseph Pickering successfully defended his client's mechanic lien and judgment for engineering services. The Maine Law Court adopted many of the arguments and suggestions from his brief in the decision. The Law Court found that a mechanic's lien filed in the Registry of Deeds took priority over a Uniform Commercial Code financing statement filed in the UCC office in Augusta.
